ALBANY, NY — Sreenivas Alampalli, Ph.D., joins global design firm Stantec as a Senior Principal in the Transportation Practice. Based in the firm’s Albany office, he will focus on asset management in the Bridge Sector, including structural health monitoring and nondestructive evaluation services.

Alampalli brings 30 years of experience working for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in inspection of bridges and other structures, evaluation, and research. He has fostered strategic public-private-academic partnerships to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure using sound asset and risk management procedures. Within these efforts, he implemented data driven decision-making processes and web-based software tools for structure inspection, program planning, and overweight permit reviews.

“We are delighted to welcome Sreenivas to our growing Bridges team,” said Tony Hunley, Ph.D., Bridge Sector Leader at Stantec. “He is an industry leader in the field and his track record of success at NYSDOT will be critical as we work with our clients to address their bridge needs and deliver impactful infrastructure upgrades in the communities we serve.”

Alampalli is a graduate of Sri Venkateswara University, with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, the Indian Institute of Technology, with a master’s degree in civil engineering, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Ph.D. in civil engineering and a Master of Business Administration in management and technology. He has successfully managed more than 100 research projects and authored more than 250 technical publications, including six books related to civil infrastructure.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Structures Engineering Institute, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), and the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring for Intelligent Infrastructure. He is also an active member of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Bridge and Structures Management and Founding President of the International Association for Bridge Management and Safety USA National Group. He is a recipient of the Aftab Mufti Lifetime Achievement Award, the Bridge NDT Lifetime Service Award from ASNT, and the OPAL Award for Lifetime Achievement from ASCE.
